Rotors
The disc brake is a device for slowing or stopping the rotation of a wheel. A brake rotor, usually made of cast iron or ceramic, is connected to the hub assembly. To stop the wheel, friction material in the form of brake pads (mounted in a device called a brake caliper) is forced hydraulically against both sides of the disc. Friction causes the disc and attached wheel to slow or stop, as the energy is converted to heat.Contents

OEM
The stock and OEM spec rotors perform extremely poorly. Lifetime with average use ranges around 2-3 years or 5,000 miles. These rotors warp quickly, and are regarded as absolute junk. Replace with any aftermarket drilled or slotted for far superior performance and lifetime.
Drilled
Many higher performance brakes have holes drilled through them. This is known as cross-drilling and was originally done in the 1960s on racing cars. Brake pads will outgas and under use may create boundary layer of gas between the pad and the disc hurting braking performance. Cross-drilling was created to provide the gas someplace to escape. Water residue may build up after a vehicle passes through a puddle and impede braking performance. For this reason, and for heat dissipation purposes, cross drilling is used on some braking components. The holes may become a source of stress cracks under severe conditions, however no cases have been known in an Alero.
Brembo
Brembo Sport slotted brake rotors are for drivers who want to improve the looks and performance of their vehicles original braking system without having to change additional brake components. Brembo Sport slotted brake rotors provide excellent stopping power in everyday traffic, as well as high performance street and track driving. Brembo Sport slotted brake rotors match the vehicles original equipment rotors dimensions and are fully compatible with its hubs, brake calipers and road wheels. Front and rear Brembo Sport slotted brake rotors are available to provide a matched appearance on all four corners of the vehicle, and employ one-piece vented or solid rotors depending on the vehicles original equipment specifications. Available at AutoAnything as well as multiple other retailers.
Power Stop
Your Power Stop Cross Drilled Rotors work a lot like a fan. As they spin, the holes in the rotors move air out from the center, across the surface and off the edge. This constant airflow reduces surface temperatures, prevents hot spots and wards off warpage. Plus, the holes greatly improve out-gassing and wet weather braking. Available at AutoAnything as well as multiple other retailers.
Pro Stop
Each Pro Stop Drilled Rotor is custom-machined for your vehicle using CNC technology. They directly replace your stock discs, so the Pro Stop Drilled Rotors don't require pricy, new calipers. And, their wrought from long-lasting G-3000 series grey iron. Available at AutoAnything as well as multiple other retailers.
Slotted
Discs may also be slotted, where shallow channels are machined into the disc to aid in removing dust and gas. Slotting is the preferred method in most racing environments to remove gas, water, and de-glaze brake pads. Slotted discs are generally not used on standard vehicles because they may quickly wear down brake pads; however, this removal of material is beneficial to race vehicles since it keeps the pads soft and avoids vitrification of their surfaces.
Power Slot
The vented design of Power Slot Slotted Rotors keeps your brakes cooler, which saves pad life and improves stopping time. Plus, moisture stays clear of the rotor surface for better bad weather braking. Available at AutoAnything as well as multiple other retailers.
Power Slot Cryo
Power Slot Pro Stop Rotors boast all the goodness of their top-quality slotted rotor siblings along with the unleashed power of cryogenics. Why freeze rotors to a biting -300°F? By dropping Power Slot Cryo Rotors to such an unfathomable cold, their strength under tension and resistance to warping goes through the roof. It's a level of strength no other rotor can match. The revolutionary design of Power Slot Cryo Rotors does wonders for the life of your brakes, too. Not only do their exclusive Vac-U-Slot vents keep things cool, they extend pad life and wick water away in wet weather, too. Available at AutoAnything as well as multiple other retailers.
Power Stop
Passing gas is essential for a healthy brake system. A gurgling buildup of fumes creates a cushion between the pads and the rotor, resulting in brake fade. The slots on your Power Stop Slotted Rotors provide an escape route for gas to travel away from the disc’s surface. Water too is channeled out along the slots for enhanced wet weather performance. Available at AutoAnything as well as multiple other retailers.
EBC
EBC’s progressive slotting provides an escape for the gasses, debris and moisture that cause brake fade. Plus, the angle at which these slots are machined creates a high-performance rotor that runs ultra-quiet. So, when you see heads turning, they’re looking at your ride—not cringing at your brake squeal. Available at AutoAnything as well as multiple other retailers.
Drilled/Slotted
Some discs are both drilled and slotted and have both of the above technologies combined in order to have an even better braking surface. The performance differences between drilled, slotted, or drilled/slotted are widely disputed, and essentially it all comes down to preference. Anything is superior to OEM.
R1Concepts E-Line
Our E-Line Performance Rotors offer superior quality and performance. Designed for all types of driving and vehicles, you’ll stop faster and smoother with these rotor upgrades. Exclusive drill and slot pattern maximizes efficiency – all at a great price. Available on eBay and through R1Concepts.
R1Concepts Premium
Cross-drilled and slotted rotors give the maximum braking for performance cars under all necessary braking conditions. Precision machined holes or slots on the rotors will allow hot gases from brake pad to escape quickly to prevent skidding or locking up. It also provides quicker response to improve faster stopping power and enhancing the look of your car. Cross drilled and slotted patterns are precisely CNC machined for perfect fit to OEM specs for use with stock calipers and stock wheels. No other modifications are needed. Available through
