Connecting Rods
In a reciprocating piston engine, the connecting rod or conrod connects the piston to the crank or crankshaft.

The small end attaches to the piston pin (or wrist pin), which is currently most often press fit into the rod but can swivel in the piston, a "floating wrist pin" design. The big end connects to the bearing journal on the crank throw, running on replaceable bearing shells accessible via the con rod bolts which hold the bearing "cap" onto the big end; typically there is a pinhole bored through the bearing and the big end of the con rod so that pressurized lubricating motor oil squirts out onto the thrust side of the cylinder wall to lubricate the travel of the pistons and piston rings.

Rod failure is one of the most common causes of catastrophic engine damage, which is why, especially when adding power or desiring longevity, Alero owners will replace their stock weak rods with powerful forged versions.

Forged
Forged rods are the recommended replacement for stock. With strength to handle ungodly amounts of horsepower, they are sure not to break under normal conditions.

Eagle
These connecting rods feature H-Beam construction, ARP 2000 hardware and bronze bushings. Each rod is crafted from 4340 forged chromoly and then individually tested and balanced. Available through your local performance shop, CarCustoms, TurboTechRacing, and many other locations. These rods typically can handle up to 900HP.
